Biography

They have risen from the midst of obscurity and become nothing more than a glamorized dance act. But, not Fred Reed.

Coming all the way from Wilmington, Delaware is R&B singer, songwriter, and community organizer, Fred Reed.

“As a kid, music was always something that I loved. I grew up in the projects in Riverside, Delaware, and people were selling drugs, but music just captivated me. I grew a love for it,” he says.

Fast-forward from his humble days singing in the church to the 90s when Reed began opening up for legendary artists such as 112, Mary J. Blige, Run DMC, and Gerald LeVert to produce alongside Scott Storch.

“I was able to see the world at a young age through music. Traveling with different R&B groups and acapella groups helped me develop my sound when people hear me, they never compare me to anyone else, which I thought was a bad thing but I’ve come to learn that it’s a good thing that makes me unique,” he says.

Coming into his own as an artist, Fred Reed has had success with his solo work on songs such as “Tug Of War”, and “Roses,”

Fred has never lost touch with where he comes from, developing the non-profit, Reeds Refuge Center. An organization dedicated to helping the academic achievement of children and the well-being of financially afflicted families in Wilmington, Delaware. The organization is also a refuge from gun violence and drug abuse.

“I walk with youth all the time and the one thing I always tell them is to be original. They already have a Meek Mill and a Beyonce, but you got to do what makes you unique,” he professes. With the release of his new single, “I Want You Back”, fans will get the hint of the classic singing in the rain style of R&B mixed with the freshness for a new era.

“My engineer, I call him my little brother, was having issues with his girlfriend, and I started teasing him. I started singing I want my baby back. Then I started writing about my personal experiences, my marriage, and that’s what made the song what it is now,” he says.
Working his way up through the music industry, Fred Reed also got the chance to work with R&B icon Raheem DeVaughn on a new song set to come out in early 2024.

“I was supposed to do a show with Raheem in Dover, Delaware and I got injured the night before and couldn’t do it. Later, I was at an event in D.C. and ran into Raheem’s drummer. The connection went from there and I talked with Raheem again on the phone. We got into the studio and recorded a song called, Found You,” he says.

The sky is the limit for Fred Reed as he ascends into the next phase of his career. The new project scheduled for release is called, “Love Sided” which will come out in 2024.

“If I got the chance to do music again, I would talk about love. The new project I have coming out is call Love Sided. It talks about all the different sides of relationships, love, the breakup, going through it, and the survival of relationships. I call it “Love Sided” because sometimes love can blindside you. You don’t know if the relationship will work out long-term or what will happen,” he says.
